English Programs

One continuous journey,
four connected stages.

English fluency isn't built by drilling isolated skills — it's built by connecting them. Our four-stage program covers every layer of language, with each stage flowing naturally into the next.

01

Phonics
& Story Reading

Foundation stage

English learning begins with accurate sound-letter recognition. When phonics fundamentals are weak, children confuse letters, mispronounce words, or fall into the habit of guessing what they read instead of decoding it.

At Scranton, we begin by understanding exactly where each student is — then guide them through structured, level-by-level phonics so that sound and letter connect naturally. Once that foundation is set, real reading begins. Storybooks become the bridge between phonics and reading fluency.

The goal of this stage isn't just to read accurately — it's to make children want to open the next book.

02

Reading
& Vocabulary

Comprehension stage

Reading volume alone doesn't build comprehension. What builds real reading ability is the gradual development of multiple skills working together: grasping the theme, identifying the key idea, decoding sentence structure, and recognizing precise vocabulary.

Our reading and vocabulary program uses leveled materials matched precisely to each student. As students progress, they build the independent reading mindset — the ability to make sense of unfamiliar passages on their own, without waiting for someone to translate.

03

Grammar for
Reading & Writing

Connection stage

Many students study English for years without improving their reading. Vocabulary isn't the only reason. Without grasping sentence structure, knowing every word in a passage still isn't enough.

At Scranton, we identify exactly which grammar concepts a student needs, then connect every concept to actual reading and original writing. Grammar is never just a problem to solve — it becomes a tool for understanding harder passages and expressing more complex thoughts.

Students learn to look at a sentence and see its architecture — not just its words.

04

Speaking
& Writing

Expression stage

Understanding English is only half. Real fluency is the ability to produce it — to speak and write your own thoughts clearly.

Once a student has the structural foundation, we move them into expression. Sentence-building practice. Personal writing. Conversational practice tied to the topics they're reading. Step by step, students become able to use everything they've learned to express themselves naturally.

This is the stage where English stops being a school subject and starts feeling like a language they own.

Where does your child fit in?

Every consultation begins with understanding your child's current level. We'll walk you through which stage to begin from — and why.
